Group therapy

Group therapy can be a powerful experience that can improve relationships, help you better understand yourself, and to feel a little less alone. It might sound scary at first – Who wants to talk about their issues in a group of strangers?!?! – but, what makes it so scary is exactly why it can be so powerful! Learning to be more open and trusting while connecting with and being supportive of others is precisely what can produce tremendous healing and growth.

Group therapy is a space wherein one or more therapists facilitate support, feedback, and building interpersonal skills with peers. Although most participants in group therapy tend to also have their own individual therapist, some find that group therapy is helpful on all its own! It all depends on your unique goals and the type of group.

Some benefits of group therapy include:

  • Receiving feedback from others who might be experiencing similar struggles
  • Being able to help others and not always have to be in the “hot seat”
  • Building relationship skills
  • Learning new tools and skills from others’ success
  • Gaining insight into interpersonal patterns
  • Improving social skills
  • Validation and encouragement from peers
  • Decreased feelings of isolation and shame
  • Faster and cheaper way to reach your goals

All group participants are first required to go through the intake process with an individual therapist to ensure the right fit, level of support, and commitment. This allows the group process to proceed in a stable way that builds a sense of trust and safety.
