Trauma Specialists in NYC

Your past shaped you. It doesn’t have to define you.

What is Complex Trauma?

Complex trauma refers to repeated or long-term emotional or relational harm, often beginning in childhood, that impacts how you experience relationships, emotions, and your sense of self.

Who is Trauma Therapy For?

Trauma therapy can help if you feel stuck in patterns, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or struggle with relationships—even if your experiences don’t seem “bad enough.”

What is the Right Therapy for You?

There are so many kinds of therapy that the choices can become overwhelming. Everyone’s needs are different. We work best with people who are looking to go beyond the surface and are looking for more than quick fixes. If you’ve been in therapy over and over and continue to feel stuck, we might be a great fit for you.

Why choose MindClear?

You don’t need help looking like you have it together. You need help feeling like you do.

We help you…

  • Stop repeating the same relationship patterns
  • Validate & heal from your experiences even if “others had it worse”
  • Feel more in control of your reactions
  • Quiet the constant mental noise
  • Understand & accept yourself without shame or self-abuse
  • Stop pretending everything is “fine”
  • Feel safer in your body
  • Reconnect with what actually matters to you

Frequently Asked Questions

We get that choosing a therapist can be a daunting and overwhelming process. We want to help you make the best decision for yourself and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Below are some of the most common. You can also visit our FAQs page which offers more in-depth information or schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss further!

How do I know if trauma therapy is right for me?2026-04-14T15:15:24+00:00

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people come in because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or simply want to understand themselves better. If something in your life isn’t working the way you’d like, therapy can help you make sense of it and move forward with more clarity and confidence.

The specifics of trauma therapy are about understanding how your past is impacting your current life and relationships. You may not think that your past was “bad enough” to be considered traumatic. That’s ok – it’s not about terms, it’s about working through the layers of your experiences to better understand why you’re struggling now… and helping you to change as a result. You can also click on our trauma therapy page to learn more.

What is integrative psychotherapy?2026-04-14T15:11:30+00:00

Integrative psychotherapy combines different types of therapy depending on what you need. We incorporate evidence-based approaches to support you as a whole person. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all method, we tailor therapy to your unique needs—drawing from techniques like DBT, insight-oriented work, IFS, attachment-based, and mindfulness-based approaches. The goal is to help you gain clarity, develop practical tools, and create lasting change.

What issues do you help with?2026-04-14T15:09:18+00:00

We work with individuals experiencing:

  • Trauma and complex trauma
  • Sexual assault and abuse
  • Dissociation
  • Chronic suicidality and self-harm
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression and low mood
  • Stress and burnout
  • Relationship challenges
  • Self-esteem and identity concerns

If you’re unsure whether your concerns fit, feel free to reach out and ask.

What can I expect in the first session?2026-03-21T18:07:02+00:00

Prior to scheduling an initial session, we offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to make sure that we can potentially meet your needs and to offer you the opportunity to ask any relevant questions. The first intake session is a chance for us to get to know each other a little bit. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping for, and the history of your concerns, collaborating on next steps and shared goals. There’s no pressure or commitment – Finding a therapist that feels right to you is the most important step in finding care.

How long does therapy take?2026-04-14T15:07:11+00:00

The length of therapy depends on your goals and what you’re working through. We are dedicated to getting you results that last. Some clients come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term work for deeper exploration and lasting growth. We’ll regularly check in to make sure therapy is meeting your needs.

What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?2026-04-14T15:03:55+00:00

That’s more common than you might think. We frequently work with individuals who have been in therapy on-and-off for years without any progress. Many therapy approaches these days are focused on symptoms reduction and validation. We go beyond the surface to get to the root of the issue. Not every therapy experience is the right fit and not every trauma-informed therapist actually specializes in complex trauma. Our integrative approach is flexible and tailored, which often helps clients who felt stuck or unsupported in previous therapy experiences.

What makes MindClear different?2026-04-14T14:59:02+00:00

MindClear Integrative Psychotherapy is focused on getting to the root of your issues rather than just telling you what you want to hear or offering a band-aid. Although many therapists have become trauma-informed in recent years (which is great!), our clinicians have extensive training and experience (or are in the process of training) in theory, research, and the treatment of complex trauma and dissociation. We do our best to tailor our approach to meet your individual needs and to understand you where you’re at.

Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?2026-03-21T18:09:39+00:00

Our office is conveniently located near Penn Station in midtown Manhattan for in-person sessions. We also offer secure virtual sessions throughout the states of New York and Florida.

What are your fees and do you accept insurance?2026-04-14T15:00:25+00:00

For some plans we may submit claims for you. We also assist with reimbursement and offer sliding scale options for those in financial need. Please visit our rates page for more detailed information. If you have questions about affordability, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help you understand your options.
